How does MASS handle the Discovery Health unique tariff rates?
Please take note:

  • Mass caters for both a flat fee unique value as well as a Rand Conversion Factor (RCF) or unit rate.
  • These steps MUST be repeated for every tariff code that has a unique Discovery Health rate.
  • Choose one of the three (3) proposed methods described below.

Option 1: Configuring Unique Tariffs:

  • Altering an Existing Tariff From the Main Medical Control menu, press on 1. MASS Medical Program.
  • Press on the Medical aids, Tariffs option.
  • Press on the Tariff information option.
  • Press on the Change existing tariff option.
  • Search for the relevant tariff code and press enter to select it. Mass caters for eight (8) different charge rates per tariff code. If you have an unused charge rate e.g. charge rate 8, we will add the new information for charge rate 8. With the Tariff Maintenance window displayed, press until you reach the Sell field for charge rate 8, type the full value of the charge rate as per the Discovery Health rates. Press until you reach the MA PR field for charge rate 8, type the full value of the charge rate as per the Discovery Health rates. Save the changes made to the tariff code.

Please take note:

  • If a new charge rate is added, this charge rate can be linked to all accounts that are linked to Discovery Health as the medical aid.

OR

  • When posting transactions for a patient that belongs to a Discovery Health medical aid option, the charge rate can be changed while posting the transactions.

Linking a Charge rate to an Existing Account

  • From the Main Medical Control menu, press on 1. MASS Medical Program.
  • Press on the Account maintenance option.
  • Press on the Change existing accounts option.
  • Search for the required account.
  • With the Account maintenance screen displayed, press down to the Charge rate field and type the charge rate number. For example, if a charge rate 8 has been added on the tariff code, type an 8 in the Charge rate field on the Account maintenance screen.
  • Save the changes made to the account.

Changing the Charge rate while Posting Transactions

  • From the Main Medical Control menu, press on 1. MASS Medical Program.
  • Press on the Transactions option.
  • Press on the Add new transactions and Payments option.
  • Search for the required account.
  • With the Transaction window displayed, post the debit transaction as you would normally. When you reach the fourth field, Charge rate field labelled C, type the charge rate number. For example, if a charge rate 8 has been added on the tariff code, type an 8 in the Charge rate field on the Transaction window.
  • Save the newly posted transaction(s).

Option 2: Configuring Unique Tariffs: Adding an New Tariff

  • From the Main Medical Control menu, press on 1. MASS Medical Program.
  • Press on the Medical aids, Tariffs option.
  • Press on the Tariff information option.
  • Press on the Add new tariff option.
  • You have to specify a unique abbreviation or lookup code for the new tariff code. We suggest you use DH e.g. 0181DH. Type all the information required for the new tariff code. Remember to type the published tariff code in the MASA field. In this example - type 0181. This will ensure that Mass uses the correct code when exporting an EDI file.Save the new tariff code.

Please take note:

  • When posting debit transactions for an account that has been linked to a Discovery Health option, type 0181DH in the Description / Abbr. field.

Option 3: Configuring Unique Unit Rates

  • From the Main Medical Control menu, press on 1. MASS Medical Program.
  • Press on the Medical aids, Tariffs option.
  • Press on the Tariff information option.
  • Press on the Change existing tariff option.
  • Search for the unit rates by typing *UNIT.
  • All Unit rates are contained within the Mass Tariff file.
  • All Unit rates’ lookup codes start with an asterisk (*) directly followed by the word UNIT.
  • With the list of unit rates displayed, search for and select the unit rate to change. For example * UNIT 3 Clinical Procedures.
  • Press on the required item.
  • Mass caters for eight (8) different unit values per unit rate.
  • Press to the Sell field for unit rate 8 and type the unique Discovery Health unit value.
  • Press to the MA Pr field for unit rate 8 and type the same unique Discovery Health unit value.
  • Save the changes.

After adding a new charge rate value ensure that the tariff code(s) are also referring to the correct information. In this example, ensure that the applicable tariff codes refer to 3 as the unit rate to indicate Clinical procedures.

Altering an Existing Tariff

  • From the Main Medical Control menu, press on 1. MASS Medical Program.
  • Press on the Medical aids, Tariffs option.
  • Press on the Tariff information option.
  • Press on the Change existing tariff option.
  • Search for the relevant tariff code and press enter to select it.
  • With the Tariff Maintenance window displayed, press until you reach the C8UN field and type a 3. The 3 refers to the *UNIT 3 for Clinical procedures.
  • Ensure that the procedure units, as published in the NHRPL, are contained within the Units field for charge rate 8.
  • Save the changes made to the tariff code.

How does Med2000 handle the Discovery Health unique tariff rates?
Please take note:

  • Med2000 only caters for a unique Rand Conversion Factor (RCF) or unit rate.
  • These steps MUST be repeated for every medical aid that has a unique tariff rate.
  • These steps could also be repeated for multiple charge rates per medical aid i.e. ANAESTHETICS.
    • From the Main menu select the Codes Maintenance option, select the Treatment Codes and Drugs option and then select the Global Tariff Adjustments option.
    • With the Rates Table screen displayed, search for the charge rate to specify a unique tariff for. Make a note of the number displayed in the RT column.
    • Press F4 to add a new tariff rate.
    • Select the medical aid for which to setup this unique tariff in the Medical Aid field.
    • Type the number in step 2 into the Rate No field.
    • Type the appropriate unit price for each of the four (4) charge rates (Private, Med.Aid., Other and Special). Also specify the rounding off rule.
    • Enter through all the fields to save the new information.

Medit is one of stalwart MS DOS-based applications. It supports clinics, general medical practitioners, radiology, anaesthesiology, and dentistry practices, as well as group practices. It has a comprehensive Stock system and works particularly well for dispensing.

Medit was developed in 1994 because it was felt that the market required a simpler approach to Practice Management Application (PRACTICE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE) industry. The approach was, to make it a client-driven product, where the service providers could feel comfortable making choices about the way they wanted to work.

How does Medit handle the Discovery Health unique tariff rates?

  • Please take note: When posting the specified tariff, the unique price selected will automatically be used instead of the default price.
  • The unique pricing feature is only applicable to M charge rate accounts.
  • Medit only caters for the flat fee in Rand value to be specified for each tariff code and does not use a Rand Conversion Factor (RCF)
  • From the Main System menu, select the Files menu, select the Edit option, and then the Medical aids option.
  • Select the medical scheme you want to apply the unique pricing to by typing its code. Alternatively use the Search function to locate the medical scheme.
  • Press the F3 key labeled Unique Tariffs.
  • If this is the first unique tariff being added for this medical scheme, a prompt is displayed for the tariff code and amount. Type the tariff code and its unique Discovery Health value.
  • Press the Esc key to save the change(s). To add another unique tariff, press the F3 key again. A list of unique tariffs is displayed.
  • Search for and select the unique tariff to edit by pressing Enter on the required line. Alternatively press the Esc button to add another unique tariff.

Please take note:

  • The unique pricing applied is on a per-option level. If a medical scheme has several options (e.g. DISCOVERY CLASSIC CORE, DISCOVERY CLASSIC COMPREHENSIVE) follow steps 2 and on for each medical scheme option to apply unique pricing for.

To remove a specific tariff’s unique pricing rule:

  • From the Main System menu, select the Files menu, select the Edit option, and then the Medical aids option.
  • Select the medical scheme to remove the unique pricing from by typing its code. Alternatively use the Search function to locate the medical scheme.
  • Press the F3 key labeled Unique Tariffs. A list of unique tariffs is displayed.
  • Search for and select the unique tariff to remove by pressing Enter on the required line.
  • Press the Esc key and select the Delete option from the displayed menu.
